Associated Wild Order Of Furs (AWOOF)
AWOOF NJ was organized to help bring the furry community together. The current board comprises of four members of the community with years of experience in event planning, set-up, operations, and breakdown.
Make no mistake, BOTH situations are medical emergencies, however while Heat EXHAUSTION can usually be treated at home or in a hotel room, HeatSTROKE CAN BE DEADLY! Spotters should understand the difference and know how to treat each situation.
Heat Exhaustion:
Symptoms:
Heavy Sweating
Cool, pale or Clammy skin
Fatigue
Nausea/vomiting
Dizziness
Muscle cramps
Rapid heartbeat
Rapid breathing
Excessive thirst
Low blood pressure (pulse will feel weak)
What to do:
* Move victim to a cool shaded area or air conditioned space if available.
* Assist in removing excessive clothing (Fursuit)
* Help to cool the victim down, Cool compresses or wet towels loosely around the neck help reduce temps fast!
* Hydrate, Lots of water or electrolytic sports drinks. (DO NOT GIVE SODA, ALCOHOL, OR CAFFEINE)
* Rest for a bit. Encourage the victim to relax for a bit before rejoining the fun.
* MONITOR SYMPTOMS!!! If the victims symptoms rapidly worsen, or do not improve within 20 minutes, call for help! Ambulance crews will be equipped for the situation and can determine if a trip to the hospital is needed.
If left untreated, heat exhaustion CAN lead to;
Heatstroke:
Symptoms:
High body temp of around 104
Change in mental status, Confusion, agitation, slurred speech, and seizures may occur.
Changes in sweating, Classic heatstroke is usually dry hot skin, however in exertional heatstroke (Likely the case with fursuiting,) the victim may be sweating profusely.
Nausea and Vomiting
Rapid pulse and breathing
Flushed skin (skin turns red in high temps)
Throbbing headache
Loss of coordination (Stumbling, inability to hold a bottle, cup, prop)
Unconsciousness
What to do:
* THIS IS A LIFE THREATENING EMERGENCY, CALL 911 ASAP
* If able, move victim to a cool shaded area.
* RAPID REMOVAL OF SUIT NEEDED. (I know this hurts, but be ready to cut the suit off of the victim. The fursuit can be repaired or replaced, their life cannot!!!)
* Actively cool the victim with cold packs, cool water spray, fans
* If the victim is conscious offer cool water to them.
* Monitor the victim and note any significant changes (good or bad) to EMS when they arrive.
* Be ready to provide CPR if the victim is unconscious, not breathing, and has no pulse. Have a by-stander update 911, and note the time CPR was started, relay all of this information to EMS upon arrival!
Special thanks to CrossArrow Arts for their image and reminders to stay safe while suiting this summer!

The AWOOF team has been made aware of a malicious telegram link that is being sent out. Please use caution.
The malicious link has been found to link users to a channel, typically advertised as a VIP channel of sorts. Upon joining, the user is messaged from a “verification bot” which requests a user enter their full phone number to verify their account. The bot will then attempt to log into the users account, prompting Telegram to send a confirmation code to the account owner. The bot will then ask for this code and if given, allows the bot to by-pass two factor authentication and a critical safety measure. Once the account is accessed, the malicious actors are able to have full access to the account for their leisure.
Due to this concern, I have come up with the following safety information;
1) AWOOF group links are accessible in the description of both the chat and announcement group. Likewise ALL AWOOF links for social media and the groups can be found at https://www.awoof.org/
2) While AWOOF does use a bot to verify accounts, the bot will not DM you, nor will it request your phone number OR a confirmation code from Telegram. NEVER SHARE YOUR NUMBER, PASSWORD, OR CONFIRMATION CODES WITH ANYONE!!!
3) Be mindful of clicking unsolicited telegram links.
4) If you suspect your account was compromised, Go to Settings>Privacy & Security>Active Sessions and click “Terminate all other sessions” This will log out all devices except the device you are currently using. You should update your passcode and ensure two factor authentication is enabled.
5) As a safety measure, Link sharing in the group will be temporarily disabled until further notice. This does not stop users from sending links via DM.
If anyone finds a suspicious link posted in the group please report it to an admin ( @AeonBosanova @Bakani @lm3440324 @tanabi98 ) so we may take action.
Thank you, and please be safe.
